Big Ben's understand that response to colour is typically emotional and associative. We know that colours can inspire strong feelings, reminding us of a particular time and place.
When beginning the process of decorating your home, many people start clipping pages out of interior design magazines. While this may prove useful to ascertain what it is you aspire to, in the end it can prove to be fruitless and often disappointing.
The best starting point is to begin collecting clippings of images that you are naturally drawn to – rainforests, beaches, apples, flowers, etc. You will start to notice a pattern emerging when you look at your collection of clippings – a particular colour family will inevitably be a focal point throughout your collection. From here you can start to think about the colour scheme for your home.
Your home should be an extension of you – a place where you feel safe and relaxed. It is important to examine your emotional response to different colours. It is a well known fact that colours can have a powerful effect on our energy levels. What colours encourage you to relax? What combinations of colours make you feel happy, encourage activity or affect your temperament and personality in some other way? Which colours are inviting and tactile or jarring, causing a sense of friction?
All these aspects need to be taken into consideration before the first can of paint is purchased or you employ a painter.
Big Ben's are more than happy to assist you with all your colour consultancy requirements.
